News Note May 2026

The biggest news this month is Solent Flyer, the BHT 130 that was the previous generation of Solent passenger hovercraft is now on its way to Kazakhstan, to join its sister open deck craft the Caspian Falcon. The craft should be most useful for personnel logistics to the Kashagan field, year-round.

At the end of May the Royal Norwegian Navy held an Industry day in Bergen for potential suppliers to pitch their equipment and capabilities for the JCC amphibious assault programme. Both Griffon Marine and ESNA were there. In this issue we have ESNA’s proposed vessel. The industry event should provide a good starting point for example integration of the electronic systems, payloads, such as drones and vessel concepts to begin war games simulations of the various scenarios foreseen for the JCC by both the Norwegian and the UK Marines and Navy.

While Silverstream are maturing their market in Air Lubrication with shipbuilders, DnV have now  completed a survey report into the various systems now on offer, supported by the European Maritime Safety Agency.
