News Note March 2024

This month we have news of several important agreements and contracts. Strategic Marine in Singapore are moving towards building Wind Farm SES, while Griffon Hoverwork have a new construction contract and begin work for the Canadian Coastguard, a core customer.
At the light end of the market Neoteric and British Hovercraft continue to deliver their craft, and Hoverstream have got their prototype into trials.
Griffon Hoverwork have produced a Q&A video for the Oita craft and Explore Oita Japan have also made a video that complements that.
This year THS Technical Secretary attended the AGM of the Hoverclub of Great Britain which is one of the key events of the HCGB calendar, a report with some observations is included in this issue.
There is much more from all around the world in the section from the internet. Also included are references to a technical paper on CFD, and an article about methanol as a fuel. Once green methanol is available this could be a preferred fuel also for ACV’s at least in the utility market.

News Note November 2023

This month we have a range of news and information for readers. Griffon Hoverwork have released a video showing the inside of the new GH12000 craft Banri before its delivery to Japan in September. At smaller scale British Hovercraft Company have delivered their first BHC-700 to Chile together with another Tidal-Pro, and two smaller craft to Fremantle in Australia and Dokkum in The Netherlands.
Silverstream outfits of their system to existing ships during docking continues, recently with that of the MV Ballard. They also have a long order list for newbuild installations in China right now. Good news for energy saving and the transition!
In this issue your Technical Secretary has made a first attempt to pull together a summary of key clubs and associations worldwide. It gives a flavour for the activity ongoing with recreational craft. It is limited to organisations that have an internet site presence. There are more out there we are sure and will endeavor to connect as soon as we can.

News Note September 2023

August and September have continued to be busy months with hovercraft trials, deliveries and major announcements.
The second GH12000, for Japan was turned around and loaded for delivery in very quick time. Meanwhile on 12th September Griffon Hoverwork announced their new air cushion landing craft – the Wyvern. This craft is designed for payload around 50 tonnes rather than the US Navy SSC at 74 tonnes. We have details of this together with updates on the US Navy SSC, South Korea LCAC programme and much more in this issue.

In this issue the focus is on the new ferries for Oita Prefecture in Japan, and Griffon Hoverwork’s new R&D into Hydrogen powering with a significant team of specialist companies.
Progress on the new craft at Portchester seems to be accelerating now, with work starting on the superstructure outfitting on two of the craft.
Griffon Hoverwork have now also started work on a project looking at hydrogen powered hovercraft.
Meanwhile RNLI are celebrating 20 years of rescue hovercraft operations, and the Indian Coastguard are retiring the first of their GH8000TD craft after 20 years service.

News Note May 2022

This month after rebuilding the THS Internet site we have prepared a News Note with two major articles, the first on the Norwegian electric fast ferry programme, and a second on Air Rider hovercraft from Ontario, Canada.
There is a selection of news about operations and new deliveries together with the normal update on hovercraft related events and a trawl of the internet.
