Introduction
The proceedings from this conference were published in Technical Report 2/77 of the National Research Council of Canada in January 1977. The transactions volume is broken into four presentation sessions. The chairman of each session gave a brief introduction before the papers were presented.
This conference included seventeen papers covering analysis and experimental work, design and operation of ACV’s, icebreaking ACV’s, design and operational experience with air cushion assist systems for heavy load transport over weak roads, and ferry platforms in the NW of Canada and Alaska. The design and experience with air cushion landing systems for cargo aircraft operating from grass/snow landing strips was also covered.
Research and operations with load carrying platforms aimed at NW Canada were presented including the La Crete hover ferry and Yukon River operations.
From UK papers were presented from HDL on their research status and a review of the ARB Committee research into hovercraft stability that was instigated after an SR.N6 hover ferry overturned in the Solent.
Finally, a paper was presented giving an overview of the US Navy 3000 tonne SES high speed frigate design with details of the major systems envisaged. Ship to Shore lightering operations with the Voyageur were also described.
There were 83 attendees to this conference.
